Picking A Christian Necklace

Choosing a Christian necklace can be a more difficult decision than many people first realize.

Although a traditional Christian cross showing Jesus' crucifixion is the common image that most of us first think of there are in fact many different choices to choose from. In this blog I'll try to cover all of the Christian jewelry gifts that are out there and not just cross necklaces. This includes Catholic and Christian jewelry such as fish necklaces, true love waits rings, rosary necklaces, Christian bracelets, charms, crucifix medallions from the Byzantine era, pewter dove necklaces, and many others both large and small.

You have to ask yourself what would others wear and what do I want to wear? Think about both traditional church looks and more modern styles of jewelry and accessories. It's important to remember that style is unique for everyone and that while there are some basic rules for knowing what to wear the choices are going to be mostly up to you. Talk to members of your church about what they think you look the best in. While one person might wear an outfit that is best complimented with a Christian charm another woman's attire might be best suited for a more orthodox necklace. The decision is an individual one that should be made with the input of trusted loved ones. Thanks to the internet and shopping online for Christian jewelry it's never been easier to show pictures of pieces to relatives and friends who live far away. You can email pictures of different pieces to people far away and get their opinions on what looks best. Keep in mind that when making a decision to buy there's no substitute for wearing an item for a friend, family member, boyfriend, or girlfriend to see in person. Many times you'll want to wear multiple pieces of jewelry with certain outfits. Don't forget that this can be expensive but if you shop smart you should be able to look good on a budget. Necklaces can be received or given as gifts and many jewelry items are not only for wearing now but can be worn for years and sometimes even passed down for generations. Talk to parents and other relatives about family heirlooms that have been passed down for generations. Don't forget to talk to family members before committing to a necklace, ring, bracelet, pendant or any other similar item that you wear to show your faith.

Think about the type of material for the necklace. There are lots of choices for the chain and whatever decorations you choose. 14k Gold, sterling silver, platinum, diamond, and beads are just some of the choices. Some are shiny and some are rustic and have a handcrafted style. Often times expensive and inexpensive or cheap Christian jewelry look very similar. In fact many people can't tell with their naked eye the difference between what's real and what's fake jewelry. Gold is a very popular choice and you'll hear about it as 10 karat, 14 karat, 18 karat, and 24 karat. Sometimes these are written as 10k, 14k, 18k, and 24k. All gold jewelry of any kind of it's earrings or charms or anything else that is gold should have a stamp or imprint that says what karat the gold is. Look for this when shopping. Feel free to ask sales people about what they think. Sales women in jewelry stores like the ones in malls that include Zales and Jared know all about fashion and what looks best. Give the salesperson a description about the person you're buying for if it's a gift and the person you're buying for can't be with you for the purchase. This way it'll be a surprise. Sometimes people have poetry on their jewelry and that's something you might want to. Don't be too worried about this right now. You should think about it though because this could influence what sized jewelry to get because you'll have to make sure your message fits on it. Maybe you have a personalized message that you want to put on it. If you can't think of anything good trying searching for a good message on the internet and ask your friends, family, and people at school and church what they think you should do. Does the person you're buying it for have a favorite bible verse? Bible verses are very popular for Christian necklaces and Christian jewelry in general. Think about an uplifting verse, maybe one that makes your friend, husband, or wife smile. If you don't know many lines from the Bible talk to your priest or pastor about what there favorites are. Songs from hymns are good ideas too. Many times these songs have really good messages about the Lord. Of course you don't have to put an entire hymn on one piece of jewelry. This probably wouldn't fit unless the song was really short. Think about the best verse and use just a portion of the song. In the end your personal message doesn't have to be amazing (Amazing Grace could be a good song to pick some words from for the personalized engraving) it's the thought that counts when giving a gift. Your effort and thought will be appreciated. The person you're giving the gift to will understand and know that you did your very best when shopping for them and it will make them happy just knowing that you were thinking about them and wanted to do something nice for them.

Sometimes you'll have to think about if you want the jewelry to be handcrafted or handmade. This can be bought or even jewelry you made yourself. There are ways to learn how to make your own and it isn't as hard as you think. Just stick with it and you'll be surprised what you can make. Most of the time when people make their own crosses they use more wood and beads and less gold, sterling silver, platinum, etc. The inexpensive pieces are the best for beginners because they're learning what's best. The crucifix is a good way to start because it's simpler to make than doves or religious things that have to do with the Pope and Vatican City. We can't all start out as Michelangelo painting the roof of the Sistine Chapel with God's touch of life as the center of our masterpieces when we're just starting out. Make a simple crucifix cross that doesn't have the body of Jesus on it. Carving a small man will be much too hard for the first time - just use a simple Christian cross like the one below. Don't get too fancy too early. Remember, it's the thought that counts. Sometimes you'll want to use the fish design that's a very common symbol in western cultures because Jesus was a fisherman or men and fed and clothed the poor by teaching them to fish and turning water into wine.

The size and type is important also. You don't want anything to be too big or too small. The size of the person is important to remember. If you're buying or getting a Christian necklace for yourself think about the way you look. If you get a necklace that's really large and you are very small or have a small neck area it will look weird because it will make your neck look even smaller. You want the jewelry to make your face and neck look better not look worse. Don't forget that a lot of times you can exchange stuff. Save the box that it came in and the receipt. If you got a gift from someone else then you probably can't return the product. With some things like necklaces you can adjust the size. Rings come in different sizes too but can be harder to adjust. Christian watches can be adjusted to0 by taking out links. Adjusting the fit of a watch band is more like adjusting the necklace chain size than adjusting a ring.

Wholesale Christian jewelry is a great thing to look into if you want to save money. Although this usually involves buying in bulk or having a jewelers license don't worry because there are other ways to find discounts and good prices. Talk to people that you know that have business licenses and see if there's any way that they could use their connections to help you save on a necklace, ring, or whatever else you're shopping for. Be Christian-like in your approach and they'll appreciate how nice you are. Think about if there's anyone in your bible study that might be able to help you. This is a very good cause and one that others in your support circle should help you with. We want a fair system of equality so we have to help each other out as best we can and always practice what we preach. Perhaps you can exchange favors with anyone that can help you find a wholesale Christian outlets for men's or women's accessories.

In future entries I'll compare different Christian necklaces and other similar jewelry pieces so that my readers can make the right decisions about to get for their loved ones and themselves.
